While there are plenty of super powers that would be marvelous, if I had the choice of only one, it would be a toss-up. Super inventive intellect would be great, because then I could simulate any number of super-powers simply by inventing a device for them. And make the world a better place in the process, enabling us to make technological leaps.

Yes, Virginia, you would get your flying car. And your personal jetpack. Mind the insurance.

Failing that I'd take the ability to reassign body mass. All of those terrifyingly skinny girls who whine because they can't lose weight? I could fix that. And I know entirely too many of us who would give just about anything (save strenuous diet and exercise, and some even do that to no avail) to lose some pounds. I could fix that too. Safe boobjobs, breast reductions, take a few inches off the hips, round out that ass, all in the snap of my fingers.

I'd be rich off the Oprah contract alone. And heaven help whoever pisses me off.

Hokay, most of the prep is done. The house is mostly done. Now it is a question of the weather permitting, getting the helping hands to pitch in on a variety of little tasks and watching folks come and have a good time.

Whew!

A few folks distant have expressed that they wish they could come, and I wish they could too. And a few have expressed that they'd like to get me something but aren't comfortable getting me a lot of things in the categories I mentioned because, well, it is hard to buy for the girl who shops for herself a lot.

So, with that in mind, as gauche as it may be, I'ma put this up again.

Truth be told it is a little pricey to throw one of these shindigs. Each element of it adds up, and as I'm not a corporation as yet and not charging anything, well, it all comes outta pocket. So if you are distant and want to do something for me on my birthday, just click on the button and throw a few bucks in the donation jar on the bar, electronically speaking. It'll be very appreciated and darn helpful... so if you haz the urge, here's the means.

Thanks! And Happy Halloween!

Post a picture of the actor you would like to portray you in LJ: The Movie and share why do you think this is a good match. Then post this in your own LJ and see what kind of discussion this generates.

I think Sela Ward. The first time I saw her I was struck by how pretty and elegant she was, and that impression remains.

And besides, she smirks like a champ.

And somehow I don't think it'd be appropriate to ask Elvira to play me. Kind of like asking Malcolm X to play Denzel Washington...

Discuss if you wish.

Bored with your day? Then fill this out so that we can get to know one another better.

So many of us know one another from our writings alone, and I myself have the darndest time when I run into some of you in person, so spill the beans- talk about yourself!

1. Who are you to me?
2. How long have we known each other?
3. When and how did we meet?
4. Do you know who I have a secret crush on?
5. Give me a nickname and explain why you picked it?
6. Describe me in one word.
7. What was your first impression of me?
8. Do you still think that way of me now?
9. What reminds you of me?
10. If you could give me anything what would it be?
11. How well do you know me?
12. When is the last time you saw me?
13. What's the most fun we've had together?
14. What's the last thing you remember us talking about?
15. Are you gonna re-post this so I can say some random things about you?

A few folks have asked me what I would like for my birthday. This flatters me greatly, as honestly I'm not terribly accustomed to being gifted, much less asked.

If you wish to know, click the link. If not, pass on freely and I'll never know you were here.

I like opals. They are my birthstone and seldom will I be found without one on my person, usually mounted in silver. Werewolves ph33r m3.

I am very much a comicbook geek girl. I have many characters of whom I am fond, most of whom reside in the DC Universe. Action figures and merchandising from said mythos are always a delight to me. Or Disney villains. I am not a Disneyphile, but I do enjoy their villains. I can sing "Poor Unfortunate Souls" from memory at the drop of a hat, and have been known to do so.

Something that you see and it makes you smirk and think of me. I got one of those last night and I already treasure it. Thanks Eggers!

Gift cards are called impersonal by some, but it is the 21st century and I get it- not everyone has time to shop. They buy punch mix and dry ice and pumpkins.

Vanity art. Like Snow White's Evil Queen I am inordinately fond of my own reflection, and it is always very appealing to me to see myself through the lens of an artist's eye. I have commissioned a number of such pieces over the years and I treasure and proudly display them all. And one or two I have recieved as gifts, and those are the best of all. If this makes me too narcissistic for your tastes, I'll be sure to look away while you take a shot at fucking yourself. Stop reading my journal and go somewhere else for Halloween. Buh bye now.

Party donations. It may look cheap and easy, not unlike the hostess, but I assure you it is neither. I stopped adding donation buttons to the announcements due to underwhelming response, so I will just put out a jar on the bar and hope to at least pay for the keg. Still counts as a birthday gift to my mind, though watching someone shove a single dollar in there is a little disheartening, I will admit. But sometimes that's all folks have, so it definitely counts. Better than watching them 'make change' for more than they put in...

Company. Sometimes people are down on their luck financially and can't afford a pot to piss in, and brother I been there. Sometimes showing up, giving me a hug and wishing me a happy birthday is all some can manage- but then I know I meant enough to them to do that for me, and those are little tidbits I save and remember forever.

There's a lucky 7 list, surely enough to help out anyone who wishes for a clue as to what I might like as a birthday gift. I'm not asking for anything, just responding en masse to the few queries I have recieved. Thank you, and good night.

Time to watch Transformers II with my honey.

I'm not sure exactly how I met Patterson. I think we got mistaken for one another a few times, and then we ended up meeting in person, and we stayed in touch. Then we spent some time together, and there you go- friends.

Not unlike how I've come to have so many of you in my life.

Patterson is a sweet guy, very easy to laugh, very positive in his outlook, and a happy bisexual who appreciates the exterior but looks for what's inside a person. Often through an orifice, as he himself would joke. But seriously, a genuine and wonderful human being.

He invited us to come see him tonight at the Contemporary, where he was appearing in his professional gig, so we went. And afterwards we went to Six Feet Under, because it is one of my favorite places to eat, it was close and the lad's skinny, he gotta eat.

Now, we had a great time wisecracking and joking around at the event, and we laughed all the way through dinner as well. But what set this evening apart was the wardrobe of the night, and the perspective that it brought.

See, Patterson is a professional Elvira impersonator. He dresses up as Elvira, performs as such, is sanctioned by the real honest to gawd Elvira, and is amazing at what he does. To clarify, that's why he gets masculine pronouns. He's Patterson. He impersonates Elvira as Elvira's Twin (tm) www.elvirastwin.com... he is not trans, he isn't a drag queen, he is a female impersonator- a guy who dresses up as a real female celebrity who has no desire to be anything other than a guy who dresses up very specifically with a purpose in mind. Related but different branch of my particular 'family'.

And he's damn good at it too. Obviously.

Now that you know all of that and we've set the stage, let's revisit. He didn't bring a change of clothes, and unlike me, wheras I can slip in and out of a costume at a moment's notice, his preparations take time and work and can't just be done or undone in a jiffy. So when we went out to dinner, we went out with a six and a half foot tall Elvira.

I got to play a game that I often play with my friends, wherein I got to hang back and be invisible for a change. Travel with a knockout Elvira somewhere and you become invisible too. And from that perspective I got to watch people's reactions as he passed them by and went about his evening. I got an idea of what it looks like in my wake for a change, and I got to blend in with the crowd for a few minutes.

It was interesting. I watched the myriad reactions, and saw how people shake their heads and laugh and grin nervously and get turned on and turned off and just how someone sticking out in the crowd really is an acid test of character and personality for people. You see how they react to such a thing and you get a little glimpse of their soul, I think. And I found it very enlightening and delightful.

Much love for Patterson. Go to his site and buy a photo or something- well-known and pretty doesn't instantly mean rich. And if you should happen to see him doing his thing, stop and tell him how fantastic he looks. Because he deserves to hear it. And maybe take the time to get to know the guy underneath the silicon and yak hair.

It's an experience I doubt anyone could regret.

My memory of tonight will be watching the bar patrons turning and looking out of the corner of my eye while we joked and laughed and had a merry old time with Patterson, looking to all the world like a dead ringer for one of my strongest role models, Wendie holding my hand as we marvelled at just how strange and wonderful our lives are... and how we wouldn't have it any other way.

This is the "Ten things you've wanted to say to some people but can't, or won't" meme that's been making the rounds again. I'm not tagging anyone because it's up to you whether or not you want to do it. Comments aren't screened, so you can guess or respond in some way, but it'll be seen. Nyah nyah ;)

1) You dealt with a lot, you deal with a lot and you question yourself often. But you are surprisingly stable, and I think all you really need is to be needed, and suddenly you are superhuman.

2) I'm really proud of how far you have come, and how you have learned to love yourself and be comfortable with yourself.

3) You seldom say what you think of me when it is negative, but somehow I suspect that's a bit of a short list, because you forgive so easily, and you love so much.

4) Harried, harried, harried, yet I love to see the light in your eyes when a geeky moment arises and you take a few seconds to have childlike glee again.

5) Everything is uphill for you and you question if you are deserving of what you have found, because everything turns to shit. But I think it really will work out and the fairytale may be for real- you just have to finish wading through the enchanted thorn bushes to get there.

6) I honestly pity you.

7) Such an odd duck, you are... I wish you would commit and actually join the human race instead of working so very hard to be unique, and alienating those around you. Instead maybe learn that being a little bit more like the rest of the human race doesn't mean giving up what you like and makes you special, it just means not being a Bizarro.

8) My diamond in the rough. Princess Jasmine got gyped by my standards.

9) You great big loveable bastard. You always bring a smile to my face and always make me laugh in spite of myself.

10) Damn you and your curves. Damn me for envying them so.

Then we moved a little deck into place on our back porch, and gotr the fence patched good as new.

All for the cost of a chainsaw rental, a little lumber and a grilled porkchop dinner.

Big thanks to the folks who showed up to pitch in, and big thanks to the folks who were willing but didn't make it for today.
