Is it wrong that whenever I see this icon, I still always think of Chad?

Haven't talked to the dude in like 2 years, other than a passing "Hey" but it is still such a strong impression in my mind. Can't decide if that makes me an ass, perceptive or just comically bizarre in my perceptions.
More ramblings and cuteness you can't resist behind the cut.
Work is work... going well, fun, but jeebus the pay cut is killing me. Bettie the Beemer is running smooth as silk after her tune-up, thanks to Garret and Andrew for being my ass-haulers to get me around and accomplish that. Wendie continues to hurt herself in odd ways, thus leading us to "Hail Wendie, full of grace, the stairs are with thee..."
Real news is that we got a puppy, at last. She's a rescue from a local rescue group... when we were at the Petco down on Ponce last weekend, Wendie was enamored of a Daschund she found, but as the folks fostering her left early, she decided this doxie bloodhound mix was just too cute to pass up. She had been found by a fellow who runs a Goodwill donation center, and someone had abandoned her in the donations box. He took her in and got her shots, but they already had 4 dogs and a fifth was too many. So they offered a free crate to anyone who wanted to adopt her as well as some toys, and through synchronicity they showed up when we were filling out the paperwork. Super nice guys, too.
So, as we were contemplating the newest addition to our family, we considered the all-important name. She had originally been named "Stinky" because she had pooped the box she'd been abandoned in. Then the rescue folks named her Daisy Mae, which also didn't hold a lot of appeal. So I asked Wendie what she would like to name her, and she looked off into the distance for a moment and said "Glinda".
We just officially renewed our GLBT card for the year, naming our dog after a character from the Wizard of Oz. Here's a shot of Wendie and I with Glinda, Unca David and Unca Dean.

So that's been the big event of our week. We started out giving her run of the house and teaching her the basic commands, but as a hound, she's surprisingly willful, and of course, she wanted nothing to do with her crate, and after a couple of household accidents, we bought a dog training book and started training her in a hurry. She's none too happy about this, but she does seem to be learning which distant corner of the yard is expected to be her toilet (despite her desire to do it where she wants to go), she still cries in her crate (despite us not acknowledging it) and she is very slowly getting the idea that "Go in your crate" means "You get a choice, go in on your own or we are 10 times your size, you ARE going in".
I am optimistic that we can get her trained and that eventually we will have a house dog, not a crate dog- after all, getting a dog only to keep her in a crate brings no joy to us, but this is neccesary (as we understand it) to training her. After all, one must expect the occasional accident with a pet, but we have no desire whatsoever to live in her bathroom. I do let her sit beside me when I am at my computer- she has a blanket there and I give her one of her toys, but keep her leashed to me via the chair, and watch as she tries to gnaw her way through the leash to freedom.
But she is very sweet, even if she's willful. And once she realizes that the big amazons are the alphas in the house, I know she will be a great dog. I'm sure. I am. Okay, I am hoping like mad, because while I wasn't planning to train a puppy, life often hands you opportunities disguised as problems. And it has been done thousands of times before, so I guess now it is my turn. I was spoiled by Max the Wonder Dog (tm) and so now I get to start from scratch and try to teach an all new canine just how to be the boon companion that Wendie and I are desirous of in our lives.
I've also gotten back into City of Heroes again. They had a free trial, wherein for their 5th anniversary they reactivated everyone's account, and I got hooked again. I really do enjoy a game with straightforward rules yet lots of lateral freedoms, with no interpretation of the rules nor actions by individuals. Plus I got to indulge my costume fetish for a very affordable price.
My namesake character, whom I originally started to be my main but got left behind due to practicality, has raced through the ranks to achieve her 50th level in my casual playing and built a considerable fortune in the auction house, which gives me a sense of completion on a long-ago written to-do list. Now I am busy equipping her with the very best of everything, playing with my toy and polishing her up so that she has everything I ever wanted for her. And then I'll be able to use her to equip all the rest of my stable, as I loan them a few mil and let them work the marketplace on their own to earn their own respective fortunes. And I already got an intervention from Wendie which resulted in a compromise wherein I play a couple of nights a week, and other than that WALK AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER to spend proper time with her.
So that's life as it stands, for those who occasionally complain when my life doesn't get broadcast. It's good... could be better, and I am striving, ever striving for that better, but for now, I am happy and healthy and still very much in love. And that's so much more than so many others have in this life, so colour me blessed.
BBQ tomorrow with a few friends. We'll see what the weather does and how many folks show up, but I anticipate it being a good time. Good food, good friends, good times, good woman. What more could a girl ask for? |

Indeed.
Poopy! I mean... Puppy! Great name, too. The previous owner abandoned her in a Goodwill box? What an ass-hole. The subsequent pooping probably ruined quite a few donations in there, too. Oh, and here's how to do an LJ-cut using the HTML commands (I eventually had to memorize this because I got tired of looking it up): http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75
Welcome to the hound family. Willful is their middle name. See Mr Fargo I do what I want Abbott. I wouldn't have him any other way. I feel it makes us more akin to each other, but good luck training. I don't have the patience and he doesn't really have accidents thank all holy things.
Love the hair; looks great on you :D
Grats on the puppy! She looks quite adorable :)
In City Of; you'd find me under my global name of @Tygenco, if you so desire.
Awwww..DOGGGIEEE!
What a Luv Dawg!
I just want to hug her!
...ANY of the hers in that picture :D
What a sweet doggie! My mother would tell you that her willfulness is also due to her dachshund bloodlines as well ;) All of our doxies were stubborn as all hell. And good for you guys for adopting a rescue! I hope good things continue being good!
lol I have nothing constructive to say but a girlie: omgpuppysquee!
The name looks surprisingly fitting, maybe it's the hair color? :)
What a sweet, sweet doggie! I love her smile. It will just take a little time to train and adjust.

Now that you point it out...
I know, right? Once the connection is made you'll never see those commercials the same way again.
"So easy a Chad could do it."
yay puppy~!
i played CoH a bit, but i was more into creating characters than the actual gameplay. my favorite was this chick who looked like a cross between a 50's stewardess and a green beret, but dressed ALL in pink... even her bandolier and guns were pink. perky blonde bob, big toothy smile, TONS of makeup. name: Mary Kay Commando. :D
AWWW!
Yes, the crate is necessary for training! Murphy is slowly getting more house-privileges, but he actually really enjoys the crate now. Training is the best possible thing you can do for the beast :)
I am so happy for you both.
Congrats on the new baby! Hounds can be incredibly stubborn until they realize who is boss. Doxies especially so. :) Part of their charm. Besides, if she wasn't a willful girl she wouldn't be yours. :) | |
